Chapter 152: The Price
Chapter 152: The Price
Mephisto glared hatefully at An Dao, who had emerged from the Teleportation Array, drawing another sword from Lei Yao’s spatial backpack with his left hand. “I was wondering when this woman would appear without me noticing. So she chose to cooperate with you.”
An Dao smiled faintly. “Mephisto, since Lei Yao can choose to cooperate with you, the Lord of Hatred, it’s not strange that his woman would seek cooperation with me, a disciple of torment.”
“Hey, hey, why are you two speaking so abstractly? Can you say something humans can understand?” Kamiyu aimed her gun at An Dao.
Although she didn’t know An Dao’s background, she knew he was a genuine First Batch Player and extremely dangerous.
“I am Mephisto, one of the Seven Demon Kings—the Lord of Hatred. And the Master An Dao serves is one of my archrivals, Duriel, the Lord of Torment,” Mephisto explained.
Kamiyu widened her eyes. “So that’s how it is.”
She thought to herself, so even the Hell Power Factions aren’t united in harmony.
At this moment, those on the city wall could hear the voices from below.
“Isn’t that An Dao, the High Priest of the Holy Light Cathedral? Why is he there?” a Player remarked, gazing into the distance.
“And he used a High Level teleportation Skill. Priests shouldn’t have such a Skill,” a Veteran Player said warily.
“You followers of the Holy Light Church, explain this! Your High Priest is actually cooperating with human traitors? And with some Demon King?” a troublemaker questioned the priest who had just led everyone in praising Kamiyu.
The priest’s face darkened, while the other believers under him wore expressions of confusion.
Li Changde stepped forward to mediate. “Don’t question anyone for now. The only villains here are An Dao and Lei Yao. The others are unaware. If they knew, would they still be standing on the city wall fighting alongside us?”
The troublemaker fell silent, and the priest cast a grateful look at Li Changde.
The priest raised both hands, turning to the believers. “Everyone, take note. From the moment An Dao opposed the Lady Saintess, he is no longer a follower of the Holy Light Church.”
Back on the battlefield.
“See, they’ve expelled you from the Holy Light Church,” Kamiyu said, hearing the shouts from the city wall.
“The Holy Light Church? That’s a religion I created to deceive all of you. I never thought you’d actually believe in it,” An Dao replied with an indifferent expression.
“Enough talk. Today, I’ll deal with Lei Yao and take you down as well—uproot the weeds, leave no trouble behind.” Kamiyu fired a shot.
Frenzied Lightning Arrow.
A simple Thunderstorm Bullet as a probe, a streak of lightning shot toward An Dao at breakneck speed.
Ye Feixuan was startled by the majestic electric attack and took several steps back, raising her hands to block the magical assault.
An Dao’s Familiar, Shadow, rose up at nearly the speed of light, swallowing the platinum lightning bolt whole.
“Zzzzzzzz.” After devouring it, Shadow grew several times larger.
“Oh, impressive. You can even block something at the speed of light?” Kamiyu widened her eyes.
“Look at him. As a human’s Familiar, he can block my Attack. But you, as a Demon King, can’t even defend against my attacks.” Kamiyu turned her head, seizing the opportunity to taunt Mephisto.
“Hmph, this is just a human body. Where could Lei Yao possibly withstand it? If it were my main body fighting you, there wouldn’t even be a need to dodge,” Mephisto said stubbornly.
“Tch, your mouth is the hardest part of your entire body,” Kamiyu retorted.
Seeing this, Jack stepped in front of Kamiyu, re-equipped his armor, sheathed the Dragon Slayer Broadsword, and drew the Doombringer, aiming it at An Dao.
Mephisto raised an eyebrow and said excitedly, “The student is teachable, truly teachable. But you must be careful—right now, the Doombringer can’t use skills; it can only use that thing you players call… what was it? ‘Basic Attack.'”
“Just use the skills. If it breaks, I’ll forge you a new one,” Kamiyu teased.
“You dare? Do you even know that once durability is gone, the entire weapon disappears? How could you possibly forge a new one?” Mephisto glared at Kamiyu.
“Why should I tell you?” Kamiyu said, her eyes darting around.
Taking advantage of Kamiyu’s distraction, An Dao made a few hand gestures.
The Familiar Shadow immediately slithered across the ground, heading straight for Kamiyu.
Jack immediately raised the Doombringer high, charged forward, and roared, “Thorns Reflection!”
“Don’t fall for An Dao’s trap! Jump up quickly—if you get caught, it’ll be trouble,” Kamiyu hastily dodged the black shadow on the ground.
Wherever the Familiar Shadow passed, everything was swallowed into the black shadow—including the grass, sand, and stones on the ground.
Unexpectedly, the Familiar Shadow suddenly changed direction and rushed toward Mephisto’s feet, engulfing him.
“The consciousness clone of the Lord of Hatred—Lord Duriel will surely be delighted,” An Dao said excitedly.
Just as Jack was about to land, Kamiyu grabbed him under his arms and lifted him up like a puppy, pulling him high into the air to avoid the sudden attack.
“Oh no, we fell for the trap,” Kamiyu muttered, seeing that Mephisto hadn’t even had a chance to dodge before being swallowed by the shadow. She hadn’t expected An Dao’s main target to be not herself, but the currently weakest Mephisto.
“But as long as Jack and I are fine, what does a Demon King’s business have to do with us? After all, we defeated Lei Yao this time and obtained another Dark Gold Weapon, the Doombringer. Later, we’ll confiscate two of his Sanctuaries—it’s not a loss,” Kamiyu said to herself.
At that moment, Ye Feixuan stepped forward and said to An Dao, “My cooperation with you—our promise has been fulfilled. I hope you will release Lord Lei Yao.”
“No problem. Just wait a moment. I need to separate Mephisto’s consciousness clone from Lei Yao’s body. You don’t want to get back an old man, do you?” An Dao said with a wicked smile.
“Cooperation? Promise?” Kamiyu overheard the conversation below and suddenly realized.
An Dao wouldn’t help others for no reason—there must have been an exchange of benefits between them.
Just like what Ye Feixuan had said to her earlier: “Spare Lei Yao, and I’ll pay any price.”
For An Dao to save Lei Yao, he must have been paid. What price did this Ye Feixuan pay?
Kamiyu watched the ground warily.
Before long, the shadow spat out the “sleeping” Lei Yao. Ye Feixuan immediately rushed forward to heal the heavily wounded Lei Yao.
Kamiyu had no time to bother with such trivial matters. She placed Jack on the city wall and flew back to the battlefield.
The shadow’s speed was indeed fast, but Kamiyu immediately discovered its fatal flaw—it could only cling to the ground and couldn’t fly like she could. As long as she kept her feet off the ground, the shadow would be unable to Attack her.
An Dao looked up at Kamiyu and said smugly, “It’s time to collect the price.”
Having absorbed Mephisto’s consciousness Clone, the shadow’s size grew even larger. Previously, it had only been the size of a small calf, but now it was bigger than an entire City Gate.
“With Mephisto’s consciousness Clone, I can directly destroy the Holy Light Cathedral and the Heavenly Father Altar,” An Dao laughed heartily.
The shadow detached from An Dao’s silhouette and swiftly rushed into the Main City.
