Chapter 189: An Auspicious Beginning
Chapter 189: An Auspicious Beginning
Fear born of violence only makes people submit; they will not truly follow you but merely dread the violence.
Only those who are morally corrupt, foolish, and lazy would use cruel punishments to force others into service.
It was not slaves who built the pyramids. Just as Mephisto said, only those with faith in their hearts are worthy of devotion, worthy of building the Demon King’s palace.
Kamiyu did not need slaves to build the Sanctuary for her. She had higher demands: she wanted the Players to willingly and wholeheartedly build the Sanctuary for her.
Moreover, this was not something only she could use; the Sanctuary, once built, would be accessible to everyone.
Seeing the camp filled with wounded soldiers, Kamiyu said nothing. With a grand sweep of her hand, a chest filled with Health Restoration Potions materialized out of thin air.
Even if it was seen as buying people’s hearts, so what?
Could she not afford it? Now was the time to recruit people. She needed manpower, needed to rapidly build up forces to construct the Sanctuary, to deal with the Ability Users, to deal with the Fear Emperor Tree.
If they didn’t drink it, who would? Give it to the Ability Users?
The Players cautiously asked, “Miss Kamiyu, can we really use these?”
They had seen Kamiyu and Jack drinking potions in the Black Sphere Live Stream.
“Of course, this is what you deserve. Thank you for protecting the Black Sphere. For us Players, the Black Sphere is a very important Item,” Kamiyu declared, raising both hands.
Having watched Li Changde’s speeches so many times, she began to imitate his tone and gestures.
Jack’s eyes lit up, thinking in surprise, when did she become so mature, actually able to say such diplomatic words?
Xiao Zhong suddenly came to his senses. No longer standing there dazedly, he immediately bent down, opened the chest, and handed out the Health Restoration Potions one by one to his injured companions.
The mother Player carefully placed the potion at her son’s lips, saying, “Drink quickly, son. You’ll get better once you drink it.”
“Gulp.”
The effect of the Health Restoration Potion was extremely fast, especially on low-Level Players, producing immediate results.
In an instant, everyone was completely healed.
“Mom?” The child with a high fever opened his eyes, his body temperature returning to normal. The next moment, he broke free from his mother’s embrace, bouncing around energetically on the ground.
“Don’t worry, it’s the effect of the potion,” Kamiyu said to the mother.
“Son, it’s okay, as long as you’re fine.”
“Hurry and thank Miss Jia. Miss Jia saved your life,” the mother Player said repeatedly, bowing her head in gratitude.
“Thank you, Sister Jia,” the child said in a childish voice.
A warmth spread through Kamiyu’s heart. Having grown up in an orphanage, she had never known what family warmth was, which led to her cynical, hate-filled, and twisted personality.
Now, seeing this heartwarming scene of maternal love and deep affection between mother and son, the soft part of her heart was touched, stirring a trace of emotion.
Jack also sensed the change in Kamiyu’s emotions. Silently, he stood behind her, offering solid and wordless support.
Don’t feel sad. I’m here. I’m here for everything. Let me carry it for you. That is my mission.
After the other Players drank Kamiyu’s Health Restoration Potions, they were all revived at Full HP. Those who had been lying on the ground moments earlier immediately sprang up like carp leaping from water, standing firmly in place and performing a set of military-style boxing on the spot.
“What potent medicine.”
“Damn, I wish I hadn’t drunk it all.”
“I feel like just one drop would’ve been enough.”
Xiao Zhong said, “Everyone, quickly thank Miss Kamiyu.”
“Thank you, Miss Kamiyu!” the crowd cheered.
“Long live Miss Kamiyu!” Everyone raised their hands in celebration.
They all felt genuine admiration and respect for Kamiyu, in awe of her abilities.
“Miss Kamiyu is amazing—she can fight and heal everyone.”
“Now we have hope. What’s a Fourth-Tier Ability User? In front of Miss Kamiyu, they’re nothing.”
“Clap clap clap clap, clap clap clap clap.” Sincere, enthusiastic applause erupted all around.
As an observer, it was easy to tell which applause was genuine and which was forced.
This made Kamiyu a bit embarrassed. Unlike Li Changde, who was more experienced, she didn’t know how to handle such an enthusiastic scene.
At that moment, Jack stepped forward to speak for Kamiyu. “By the way, is the Black Sphere upstairs? Let’s go up and talk.”
Only then did Xiao Zhong snap out of it.
So everyone happily walked toward the apartment building, as if celebrating the New Year.
Black Sphere Room.
“Such a familiar room. It’s hard to believe we were here just over a month ago. So much has happened, yet it feels like yesterday,” Kamiyu said.
She noticed a laptop next to the Black Sphere, connected to it with a data cable.
Her eyebrows raised. “You’re a genius, using a computer to hack the Black Sphere. If you’d been summoned a month ago, you’d probably have been the strongest Beta Tester.”
Xiao Zhong rubbed his nose and said, “I’m not that amazing. I’m just a graduate from a technical college who couldn’t find a job.”
“Hmph.” Kamiyu snorted, smiling without saying another word.
Kamiyu walked to the window and surveyed the terrain. Longming Technical College was right next door, offering a wide-open view. The 26-story apartment building was one of the tallest in the area, making it perfect for setting up a Sniper Camp with a Sniper Rifle.
“What do you think of this place?” she asked, turning back to Jack.
“Whatever you say, it’s all good,” Jack replied.
Choosing a location for the Sanctuary felt almost like shopping for clothes.
Kamiyu kicked him lightly. “Be serious, will you? Use your Mercenary mindset to analyze it.”
Jack took the kick without complaint and walked over to the window. “No need to think about it. I analyzed the surrounding terrain while driving earlier. This is the only place suitable for building a Sanctuary.
The transportation is convenient, the view is wide open, and the apartment building is big enough to house hundreds or even thousands of people. If the Sanctuary expands later, we can incorporate the nearby school and make use of the existing buildings. It’s convenient for daily life—we’d only need to build offensive and defensive structures.”
Kamiyu raised her eyebrows and patted Jack on the back. “Not bad, Jack. You’ve been working quietly behind the scenes.”
“Alright, let’s build it here,” Kamiyu said, pulling out a figurine-sized Altar of Lilith from her backpack space.
The Black Sphere was meant to replace the Heavenly Father Altar in the Main City, so the two didn’t conflict.
“Is… is this the legendary item? Miss Kamiyu, are you really the Beta Tester the Veteran Players talk about?” Xiao Zhong widened his eyes and even wiped his glasses, afraid he might be seeing things.
“You all know about Beta Testers and Sanctuaries?”
Everyone nodded in agreement, and Xiao Zhong said, “The veteran players told us about it, but unfortunately, they were all killed by Ability Users.”
Kamiyu thought to herself that there was no need to explain it all over again.
“Building the Sanctuary requires everyone’s strength. This is everyone’s Sanctuary, and I want us all to contribute and not slack off,” Kamiyu said with some concern.
“Of course, Miss Kamiyu is our great savior. It is an honor for us to be able to contribute to Miss Kamiyu’s efforts.”
“That’s right.”
“And besides, Miss Kamiyu also said this is for our own Sanctuary. With a great enemy at our doorstep, how could we possibly slack off?”
