Chapter 2: Reversal
Chapter 2: Reversal
The newly transformed Kamiyu looked around the room, feeling somewhat anxious but even more excited.
It seemed what the monitor said was true—reality had turned into a game, and she had crossed over into it.
As a professional-level player, Kamiyu keenly sensed that this game was far from simple: a sealed room, a mysterious Black Sphere, most likely a brutal life-or-death struggle.
Kamiyu scanned her surroundings and noticed that, including herself, there were eight people in total. Judging by their vigilant eyes and calm demeanor, she knew they were not to be underestimated.
Putting herself in their shoes, these people were probably experts in some field, just like her.
“As long as I have a gun in my hand, I won’t lose,” Kamiyu thought to herself.
But where was the gun? She had transformed into a gun-wielding beauty character, so where was the weapon?
Her mind raced—could it be like in anime or movies, where she had to “summon” the Interface Panel or System by thinking about it?
With that thought, she tried it.
“Interface Panel,” “System,” “Attributes,” “CMD,” “~”
No response? Kamiyu widened her eyes.
What kind of joke was this? Wasn’t she supposed to have crossed over into a game? How could she not even check her current attributes? How was she supposed to play without a system?
“It’s useless. This isn’t a game; this is reality. We’ve been abducted by aliens,” said the Gloomy Suited Man sitting on the sofa as he lit a cigarette.
Everyone had already confirmed that they were still themselves, with no changes to their bodies.
In other words, only Kamiyu had transformed into a game character—a beautiful girl.
“Then why are all of you still so calm?” Kamiyu asked with a frown.
She hadn’t spoken aloud when she tried to call up the system earlier, so how had this man seen through her thoughts?
The Gloomy Suited Man didn’t answer, tilting his head back to exhale a puff of smoke.
“Hehe, little lady, since none of us have any strange superpowers, I’m just going to make my move now,” said Mohawk, drooling as he crawled toward Kamiyu on all fours in a bizarre manner.
The others around them ignored the scene, acting as if they hadn’t seen anything.
At a disadvantage, Kamiyu searched for any tools she could use.
Thud. A vase smashed into Mohawk’s head.
The vase shattered, and blood trickled from Mohawk’s forehead.
“Damn it, who ambushed me? Show yourself!” Mohawk turned around and shouted.
An exceptionally muscular giant stood up from behind the sofa.
Not only Mohawk, but even Kamiyu stared at the giant in shock.
“He’s so tall—his head is touching the ceiling. Do people like this really exist in reality?” Kamiyu swallowed nervously.
He stood over two meters tall, weighing what looked like over 200 kilograms, with solid muscles covering his entire body and old and new scars scattered all over.
Kamiyu looked at the giant’s short, golden buzz cut and the terrifyingly fierce masseter muscles on his cheeks, reminding her of a ruthless character from a popular manga.
“Jack Hanma?” Kamiyu said, looking up at him. At less than 1.6 meters tall, she only reached his waist.
“I don’t remember knowing you, and my last name isn’t Hanma,” Jack said in a deep voice.
Mohawk knew he was no match for him. With two “hehe” laughs, he wisely scurried away in defeat.
“Thank you,” Kamiyu said, grateful for Jack’s intervention.
Seeing that the situation was resolved, Jack turned and sat down with his back against the floor-to-ceiling window, right next to Kamiyu, who was leaning against the wall.
Seizing the opportunity, Kamiyu secretly picked up a sharp piece of broken porcelain and hid it in her hand.
Kamiyu’s subtle, almost imperceptible movement was still caught by the gloomy suited man on the sofa.
The room fell silent once more.
Not long after.
Someone couldn’t hold back and shouted, “Why hasn’t it started yet?”
“Maybe not everyone has arrived,” another person said.
As soon as the words were spoken, four bluish-white lights appeared out of thin air, and four rowdy young men materialized in the room.
“Four summoned at once?”
“Not counting that woman, there are 11 men in total? This mission is probably going to be tough,” a Brother Dong who had watched Slaughter City frowned.
“Where is this?” Huang Kun said.
“What’s going on?”
“What is this Black Sphere? Are we filming a movie?”
“I know this—isn’t this the Black Sphere from Slaughter City?”
“Huang Kun, and his three good-for-nothing friends? Why are they here too?” Kamiyu thought in surprise.
Feelings of shame, fear, and panic surged within her.
But this was an opportunity. She was convinced this was a game, and as long as it was a game, as long as she had a gun in her hand, she could kill all four of them.
Especially since she was a female character skilled in sniping.
At that moment, the Black Sphere suddenly began playing a piece of classical music.
“Is this ‘Ode to Joy’?”
“It’s coming, the game is finally about to begin,” Brother Dong quickly stood up.
Everyone gathered around, except for Jack, who remained seated on the floor.
【Welcome to Death Space (Closed Beta). The winner of the game will receive the <Closed Beta Tester> title and enjoy privileges when the game enters Open Beta.】
【Please line up one by one and touch the Black Sphere with your hand to draw your Closed Beta Exclusive Talent and unlock your character’s profession Interface Panel.】
“I told you this was a game. So the reason there was no Interface Panel was because it hadn’t been unlocked yet,” Brother Dong said excitedly. “All of you, move aside. I’ll go first.”
The gloomy man smirked and stepped aside, letting Brother Dong go ahead.
Kamiyu understood the current situation: the gloomy man was the backbone among these eight people, and they weren’t panicking because Brother Dong was explaining everything to them.
“Brother Kai, the first Exclusive Talent might come with a special achievement,” an underling whispered.
“Why should you go first?” Huang Kun nodded, grabbing Brother Dong’s shoulder.
Huang Kun’s three other friends quickly stepped forward and surrounded Brother Dong.
The others nearby acted as if it had nothing to do with them.
“Get lost,” Huang Kun said, not waiting for Brother Dong to respond, and yanked him to the ground.
“Damn you, just you wait,” Brother Dong returned to the gloomy man’s side.
Kamiyu tightened her grip on the broken porcelain shard in her hand.
Huang Kun hesitated for a moment, then placed his hand on the Black Sphere.
【Ding, first contact detected. Granting special talent, unlocking profession Interface Panel.】
“Brother Kai, Brother Kai, what did you get?” an underling asked.
“Wow, it’s actually an SSR-Class Talent 【Destroyer】—one punch can shatter a building. My profession is Rogue.”
“Holy crap, with a Rogue’s speed and Invisibility, plus an SSR-Class Talent with incredible Destructive Power, I’m going to dominate this time!”
“Damn, that was supposed to be my talent,” Brother Dong clenched his fists.
The gloomy man, who had been sneering, also furrowed his brow.
Kamiyu gripped the broken porcelain shard even tighter, while Jack beside her remained unmoved, completely ignoring the commotion in the center of the room.
After one round, it was finally Kamiyu’s turn at the very end.
The gloomy man had Brother Dong step forward to guide everyone in discussing the abilities and professions they had obtained, in order to prepare for the upcoming game.
“We don’t know what game is coming next, so just in case, everyone should know their own and others’ abilities to be prepared.”
No one looked at Kamiyu, completely disregarding her as a non-combatant who would only hold them back.
【Ding, detected the last person to make contact, special achievement obtained, special talent granted, profession interface panel unlocked】
The Black Sphere’s text flashed by, unnoticed by anyone.
Kamiyu thought she had seen it wrong.
【Special talent obtained: Enhancement, Level UR;
Description: Can enhance everything, see attachment for details;
Comes with 1 Enhancement Point, eliminating enemies grants Enhancement Points】
【Profession interface panel unlocked, profession obtained: Gunsmith】
Kamiyu immediately asked in return, “Do cannons, machine cannons, and smoothbore cannons count as firearms?”
【Description: A Gunsmith can proficiently operate all known human firearms, including but not limited to guns, ammunition, and various explosives】
Kamiyu immediately “opened” the Storage attached to the interface panel and found a brand-new NTW-40 Anti-Materiel Sniper Rifle, complete with ammunition and a scope, quietly lying inside.
Kamiyu was overjoyed. She finally had a gun. With her godlike shooting skills, plus the Enhancement talent that could enhance guns, ammunition, and even herself, wouldn’t she be invincible?
“Finished choosing?” Brother Dong walked over at that moment.
He asked, “What’s your profession?”
“I use guns,” she said vaguely, neither telling the truth nor lying outright.
“Hmph, with that small frame of yours, can you even hold a gun? When you get the equipment from the Black Sphere later, make sure the safety is on and keep the muzzle pointed down. Don’t shoot your own teammates,” Brother Dong looked down on her.
Kamiyu felt indignant. She had never lost when it came to guns. With her Enhancement Points, she could enhance her Strength and hold a gun just fine. They’d see who had the higher K/D ratio then.
“Alright, now that everyone has obtained their talents and professions, let’s see what this game is,” Brother Dong said excitedly, rubbing his hands together.
“Get out of my way, all of you!” Huang Kun rushed forward, shoving Kamiyu behind him.
“You’re showing your back,” Kamiyu said out of habit.
The Black Sphere displayed the information word by word: 【Congratulations to everyone for obtaining talents and professions】
【Next, Death Space (Beta Version) will invite everyone to play a 72-hour death game】
“I knew it was a death game,” Brother Dong said smugly.
“Pfft, who hasn’t seen Slaughter City?” Huang Kun retorted.
【Game content: 12 Players must kill each other within 72 hours. If more than 1 Player remains alive after 72 hours, all Players will die】
The previously excited, noisy room instantly fell dead silent.
You could hear a pin drop.
Everyone looked at each other in panic and fear, frozen in place.
They had told each other all their information!
What their talents could do, what their professions were—everything had been exposed.
This wasn’t a PVE team dungeon boss raid game; this was PVP individual competition, Deathmatch Mode. What should they do now?
【Next, everyone will be randomly teleported into Dragon Roar City. Please prepare yourselves】
【72:00:00】
【71:59:59】
“Since this is a game, I’ve never lost in an FPS game,” Kamiyu couldn’t contain her excitement.
The game’s start officially unlocked abilities. Kamiyu quickly opened her Interface Panel and used the gifted Enhancement Point.
“Enhancement, target, ceramic shard,” she silently commanded.
A flash of white light passed, and a crisp sound echoed in her mind.
【Ding, ceramic shard enhanced into ultra-hard Ceramic Blade.】
Kamiyu’s eyes lit up—so Enhancement could change an item’s appearance too.
The people around her hurriedly turned their attention to the unassuming Kamiyu.
“Trying to hide by turning your back?” Kamiyu gripped the hilt, the razor-sharp Ceramic Blade piercing Huang Kun’s heart as if it were tofu.
Afraid Huang Kun’s heart might be on the right side, she leaped up and delivered another slash, severing the artery in his neck.
Blood erupted instantly, splattering everyone nearby with scalding crimson.
“Damn, we can Attack already?” Brother Dong exclaimed.
“Someone’s been killed!”
“Hit her now, the game’s already started,” the Sneaky man shouted.
【Ding, enemy killed, gained 1 Enhancement Point.】
Not bad—the System even confirmed the kill. Kamiyu had been planning to go for the Last Hit.
The Black Sphere’s screen and everyone’s Interface Panels simultaneously displayed 【11/12】.
Seeing the figure begin to fade, indicating teleportation had started and further Attacks were impossible, Kamiyu sheathed her Ceramic Blade with a smile and said, “See you soon.”
