Chapter 46: With My Broken Body, I Become Blazing Flames

Chapter 46: With My Broken Body, I Become Blazing Flames

A life-and-death chase unfolded within Dragon Roar City.

An armed helicopter pursued Jack and Kamiyu’s armored vehicle, while Jack and Kamiyu pursued Zhong Hao’s armored vehicle.

Kamiyu opened the armored vehicle’s sunroof hatch, climbed out, and set up her Signature Sniper.

“Load Magic Bullets—Curving Bullet, Delayed Implosion Bullet, fire,” she murmured.

The bullet was fired.

A “bang” echoed.

But the expected explosion did not occur.

For added safety, Kamiyu had even stacked a Curving Bullet with auto-aim tracking. Why hadn’t it hit?

“Wait, even if the Magic Bullets failed, my marksmanship shouldn’t have faltered. My Signature Sniper is an Anti-Materiel Sniper Rifle—one shot should have blown up the armored vehicle.”

“What exactly happened?” Kamiyu exclaimed in surprise.

【Magic Bullets: 4/100】

Moreover, stacking bullets consumed 2 rounds per shot, making the situation even more dire.

It turned out that Zhong Hao in the vehicle ahead had burned his Life to unleash an even stronger Ultimate Skill: 【Reverse Future】.

【Future Perception】 was a Talent, enabling the prediction of the future upon activation.

The Black Sphere Game had also granted Zhong Hao the immensely costly, game-breaking Ultimate Skill 【Reverse Future】.

It forcibly reversed and erased the content seen through Future Perception.

If Kamiyu knew, she would have said, “Isn’t this just like that one move from a certain ninja anime? The one where you sacrifice an eye to save a life.”

The terrifying cost of this Ultimate Skill was burning ten years of Life.

Instantly, Zhong Hao aged significantly. Originally in his thirties, he now appeared to be in his forties.

He began coughing violently inside the vehicle.

Cornered with no way out, Zhong Hao had even resorted to his final Ultimate Skill.

But this could only block one of Kamiyu’s shots.

She could fire a second shot, a third shot.

Would Zhong Hao have a second decade, a third decade of Life to expend?

He didn’t know how long his lifespan would be—perhaps he would die at fifty. He was gambling blindly.

His Future Perception began to activate, showing him dying again, this time by Kamiyu’s gun.

Zhong Hao slammed the steering wheel in fury, honked the horn repeatedly, and cursed, “Damn it!”

Inadvertently, he knocked the vehicle’s radio to the floor.

“Huh, there’s a chance,” Zhong Hao exclaimed, looking at the radio transmitter in surprise.

Clutching it like a lifeline, he shouted all his Skills over the Public Channel, even exaggerating his abilities to ensure his survival and compel the authorities to protect him at all costs.

Upon receiving the transmission, Colonel Hu immediately convened a meeting for discussion.

Upon hearing that Zhong Hao possessed such Skills, the authorities, now truly desperate, authorized Colonel Hu to protect Zhong Hao at all costs.

Meanwhile.

Kamiyu’s vehicle, of course, also had a radio. Upon hearing the transmission, she immediately understood: “So this sneaky old bastard was hiding this Ultimate Skill all along.”

“No wonder I couldn’t hit him. I thought my Skill or my Sniper Rifle’s Durability had dropped or something was wrong.”

“Just watch me toy with you to death,” Kamiyu thought, planning to employ her mix of feints and real attacks again.

This shot would be fake, the next one fake too, and the one after that all fake.

She would relentlessly trick Zhong Hao into burning decades of his Life, aging him to death. Then, victory would be hers with just a flick of her finger.

Jack also snorted, sensing Victory within reach. Soon, he would be able to engage in a decisive, thrilling battle with Kamiyu.

But fate is ever so unpredictable.

Senior Colonel Hu ordered Zhong Hao to fasten his seatbelt and accelerate forward at full throttle, disregarding everything.

The armed helicopter in the sky had received authorization to open fire and had already aimed at Kamiyu.

Unaware of what was happening, Kamiyu, overjoyed and thinking victory was within reach, repositioned her Sniper Rifle and aimed at the vehicle ahead.

She wanted to torment Zhong Hao to death.

Inside the armored vehicle, Jack, hearing the sound of the armed helicopter ascending, sensed danger and immediately turned the steering wheel hard to the right.

Kamiyu was nearly thrown off and shouted, “What are you—”

Before Kamiyu could finish her sentence, Jack yelled, “Activate skill 【Thorns Reflection】.”

The sound of “rat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat” from the machine cannon erupted.

The armored vehicle they were in was instantly reduced to scrap metal, bursting into raging flames.

Kamiyu, equipped with Legendary Equipment, was not afraid of the machine cannon, but Jack was flesh and blood, and the weakness of his Steel Fortress Talent was its lack of Defense Power at close range. He would be burned to death by the fire inside the vehicle.

Fire damage would be judged as close-range damage.

That was why he had to activate this skill.

While the armored vehicle and other civilian vehicles were turned into scrap metal, the people around were less fortunate, reduced to minced flesh.

The armored vehicle overturned, and the immense impact knocked both of them unconscious.

The Thorns Reflection skill immediately provided Feedback to the armed helicopter, causing it to burst into flames and crash to the ground, slicing dozens of pedestrians into pieces.

Kamiyu quickly regained consciousness but felt dizzy, her ears as if deafened, unable to hear anything, and everything around her seemed to sway and tilt.

At this moment, she was trapped inside the overturned vehicle, one arm pinned, half of her body inside and half outside.

She saw Jack unconscious over the steering wheel, his legs tightly stuck, unable to move.

Kamiyu shouted his name loudly, trying to wake him up.

Anxious and frantic, she forgot all calculations, forgot the distinction between friend and foe, forgot the game rules, and reverted to her human instinct, hoping to rescue the benefactor who had helped and saved her.

She noticed the player count on the Interface Panel: 【Player Count: 3/12】.

Fortunately, Jack was still alive.

The flames raged, spreading rapidly inside the vehicle. If they didn’t escape soon, they would die.

Kamiyu realized her Health was dropping. It turned out that even with Armor, one could still suffocate to death.

Now she no longer cared about the “loophole” that environmental factors could affect Defensive Equipment.

Environmental factors could break through the Defense Power of Defensive Equipment.

“Wake up!”

“Jack!”

Kamiyu remembered she had an extremely sharp Ceramic Blade.

Right, she had a knife. She could cut away the metal pieces trapping her and Jack.

Just as Kamiyu was about to cut through the metal around her—

The sound of another helicopter’s rotor blades echoed from the sky.

The “rat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat” of the machine cannon rang out again.

Zhong Hao roared, “Shoot! They’re still alive!”

It turned out that Zhong Hao, seeing the Game Player count still at three, had “reported their location” in the Public Channel, urging the authorities to continue firing.

The machine cannon struck Kamiyu, and the intense barrage knocked the Ceramic Blade from her hand.

“Damn you!” Kamiyu screamed.

“Cough, cough, cough, cough.”

Her Health plummeted rapidly, her head growing dizzier and heavier.

“Am I really going to die?”

“After coming this far…”

“I can’t accept this. I refuse to accept this.”

“I want so badly to live.”

Kamiyu desperately crawled toward the Ceramic Blade, her hand repeatedly reaching for the hilt, but her body was pinned down, unable to move.

“Cough, cough, cough, cough.”

Her last ounce of strength exhausted, her fingers went slack.

Suddenly, a divine voice rang out.

“Activate Skill, 【Golden Body】.” Jack said weakly.

Aiming carefully, he Summoned the Dragon Slayer Blade, using the blade that appeared out of thin air to slice through the iron frame pinning Kamiyu down.

Freeing Kamiyu.

With the last of his strength, Jack kicked Kamiyu out of the wreckage.

When he regained consciousness, he found his Health was down to a sliver.

Health down to a sliver, strength down to a sliver, time down to a fraction—if he saved Kamiyu, he couldn’t save himself.

Yet Jack still resolutely saved Kamiyu once again.

The flames began to consume Jack.

Why?

Why did there need to be so many whys?

Jack laughed softly. He wasn’t the kind of person who asked why.

Unrestrained, doing whatever he wanted, challenging whoever he wanted, saving whoever he wanted.

If he had to explain, he would tell Kamiyu why he saved her again and again.

If there was a next life.

He closed his eyes with a smile.

Kamiyu was kicked out of the thick smoke. She regained consciousness, lying on the ground, watching Jack being consumed by flames inside the vehicle.

Kamiyu immediately picked up the Ceramic Blade from the ground, ignoring the searing heat, approached the wreckage, and began slicing through the vehicle body, trying to save Jack.

But time waited for no one.

【Players Remaining: 2/12】

At that moment, Kamiyu felt just like the Protagonist V in Cyberpunk 2077, watching her “good friend” Jack die before her eyes.

“Jack.” Kamiyu wept bitterly, shouting loudly.

“Hahahaha, dead, finally one is dead. Hurry up and keep going.” Zhong Hao roared wildly.
