Chapter 51: Revive
Chapter 51: Revive
Kamiyu never expected the last Treasure Chest to offer the chance to revive a Player.
Anyone who had seen Slaughter City knew that when a “Player” accumulated 100 points, they had three choices:
First, regain freedom after having their memories erased;
Second, obtain a powerful Weapon;
Third, revive a Dead Person recorded by the Black Sphere.
The Black Sphere here was no different.
It gave Kamiyu two choices: 100 Enhancement Points, or reviving a specified Player.
Without hesitation, Kamiyu clicked to revive Jack.
Jack had saved her time and again. If she still calculated gains and losses here, hesitating over this and that,
then she would truly be worse than a beast.
The first time, here, he stopped Mohawk’s violence with a ceramic vase, indirectly helping her eliminate her enemy Huang Kun and obtain a Legendary Weapon, the Ceramic Blade.
The second time, during the hotel building escape by jumping, he saved her using the Thorns Reflection Skill.
The third time, he gave up his own chance of survival, exhausted his last bit of strength to push her out of the sea of fire, sacrificing himself to save Kamiyu.
She felt that in this round of the game, without Jack’s help, she would have likely died long ago under the official intervention.
She never imagined that in today’s materialistic society, such self-sacrificing heroes still existed.
To duel with her, he had repeatedly saved her from peril.
From Jack, Kamiyu sensed an aura of free-spiritedness, self-assurance, and a blend of righteousness and wickedness.
If Jack weren’t an opponent, he would definitely be a good teammate.
Kamiyu made her choice and clicked to revive Jack.
The mysterious Black Sphere began its hyper-advanced technological operation.
In a dark chaos, unaware of time or place,
Jack, caught in the crevice, fell into a kaleidoscope of memories.
A sickly-looking girl who closely resembled Kamiyu but had red hair and a thinner, frailer build appeared before Jack.
“Brother Jack, you’re finally awake. The hot soup is ready, come and have some,” the girl said.
“Didn’t I die? Winnie, you’re alive?” Jack opened his eyes wide.
Jack jumped off the bed in surprise, only to find his right leg bound with wooden splints.
“Brother Jack, your leg is fractured, you mustn’t move recklessly,” Winnie quickly walked over and supported Jack.
Jack stared intently at his biological younger sister, Winnie.
He realized this was ten years ago, when he was fourteen and Winnie was twelve.
“Have I… been reborn?” Jack said in astonishment.
“Brother Jack, what are you talking about? I don’t understand. Did you have a nightmare?” Winnie tilted her head and asked.
“We need to leave here immediately,” Jack said urgently, not answering her question.
He grabbed Winnie’s hand, wanting to leave the dilapidated wooden hut.
“Brother Jack, the government troops have surrounded this city for over three months. We can’t get out anymore,” Winnie replied despairingly.
Simply because they were of a different ethnicity, with different hair and eye colors, the government troops had declared them rebels, sentencing everyone in the entire settlement to death.
Plunder, rape, pillage, and brutal killings unfolded in this city every day.
Even this bowl of hot soup was made from canned food Winnie had scavenged from a pile of corpses.
Everyone wanted to leave this city.
Jack’s tragic memories all came flooding back at once.
Ten years ago today, he finished his hot soup and went out to inquire about escape routes.
After successfully learning the route, he returned home filled with joy.
Only to find that his younger sister had been raped and killed by government soldiers.
Now it was different—he had been “reborn,” and he could immediately take his sister and flee this living hell.
Jack shook his head and said, “You drink it quickly. I know a small path.”
“Really?”
“That’s right.”
“Brother, you should drink it instead. I’m not hungry,” Winnie said sensibly.
Jack only wanted to leave immediately, because memories from the past told him that government soldiers could arrive at any moment.
Without further hesitation, Jack poured the hot soup into a bottle, tightly grasped Winnie’s hand, and the two of them set off together.
“Winnie, don’t worry. I will definitely protect you, I swear,” Jack said earnestly.
Jack thought to himself, ten years ago he couldn’t save Winnie, but ten years later he successfully saved “Winnie”—that is, Kamiyu. He wondered how she was doing in the other world now.
Now he had to save Winnie again and protect her for a lifetime.
Winnie walked alongside Jack on the icy, snow-covered road.
“Brother Jack, do you really know a small path?” Winnie trembled like a newborn fawn.
Jack held her close in his arms, and the two leaned on each other for support.
“I know,” Jack said seriously.
Winnie knew that Jack had been bedridden all month. Earlier, he had injured his leg while searching for food—where could he have learned about an escape route?
But Winnie still chose to believe Jack, to believe her brother.
Jack was like a faint glimmer of light in a desperate situation, illuminating Winnie, who had already lost hope.
The two walked for an unknown length of time.
Suddenly, a group of ragged bandits appeared, blocking Jack’s path.
The bandit leader said to Jack, “If you want to live, leave the woman and the food.”
Winnie tightened her grip on Jack’s arm.
Seeing the color of the bandit leader’s eyes, Jack frowned and said, “We are of the same people, the same kin. The city has already turned into hell—you can’t keep bullying your own kind.”
The bandit leader spat. “Cut the nonsense. Those with food are kin; those without are dead people.”
Jack had no choice but to say, “I know a small path. I can lead you all out of here.”
“Ridiculous. There are tens of thousands of troops outside the city—where could you possibly escape to?”
“Besides, do you take me for a three-year-old child? Since the siege began, you’re the 398th person I’ve heard claim to know a small path.”
“Guess why I’m still here, and guess where those 398 people are now?” the bandit leader retorted.
“It’s really true. It’s at Kursburg—walk two kilometers west along the abandoned reservoir. There’s a patch of shrubs there. Pass through the shrubs and you can leave,” Jack said excitedly.
This was certainly true; otherwise, how could Jack have survived for ten years? During those ten years, he did nothing but join the “rebels” and kept fighting.
“Made up quite convincingly,” the bandit leader still didn’t believe him.
“Enough talk, brothers, let’s get them.”
“Eat the man, rape the woman, then eat her too.”
“Hehehehe.”
“Hahahaha.”
A group of thugs armed with knives, spears, and clubs prepared to surround Jack.
Jack immediately threw away his wooden stick and pushed Winnie away.
“Winnie, run! I’ll hold them off. Follow the route I just told you—you’ll definitely make it out,” Jack shouted loudly.
After speaking, Jack charged forward with a knife to fight the thugs.
“Brother Jack,” Winnie cried out.
Having starved for over a month, she had given her share of food to Jack, leaving her with no strength to flee.
In no time, she was pinned to the ground by the thugs.
A human tragedy unfolded once again.
Jack, only 14 years old, had walked for days and nights, exhausted and with a broken leg. He was no match for this group.
“Winnie.”
Stabbed over a dozen times, Jack collapsed in a pool of blood, calling out his sister’s name with his last breath.
Ten years ago, his sister had died at the hands of government soldiers. “Ten years later,” she died at the hands of so-called “compatriots.”
Neither his sister nor Jack could escape their fate.
A beam of white light shone upon Jack’s “corpse.”
The Black Sphere began its work, and Kamiyu’s choice was successfully fulfilled.
Jack awoke once more.
The first person he saw was Kamiyu. Overwhelmed with emotion, he immediately embraced her tightly, pulling her into his arms, and shouted, “Winnie, I’m glad you’re okay.”
“Hey, what are you doing? You pervert without clothes.”
In the Black Sphere Room, a muscular man over two meters tall, completely naked, was tearfully clutching a pink-haired girl less than 1.6 meters tall in his arms.
Jack was so emotional that he even smeared snot onto Kamiyu’s pink hair.
The atmosphere was undeniably awkward.
