Chapter 94: Mistaken Identity
Chapter 94: Mistaken Identity
Jack descended from the sky, his feet landing on the ground and sending dust and sand flying into the air. He then turned the blade of the Dragon Slayer Blade upright and, like swinging a tennis racket, sent Eno flying with a single strike.
Even though it was just the flat of the blade hitting the opponent, the sound of it slicing through the air with a “whoosh” was enough to startle everyone.
Eno was sent flying backward once again, his Legendary Armor completely shattered, emitting particles of white light. Eno was left with only a sliver of health, collapsing unconscious on the ground, completely knocked out.
Jack’s strike even stunned the Bard standing nearby, who stood frozen in place, unsure whether to rush to Eno’s aid.
“Who is this? Why didn’t we notice him?”
“Such incredible strength—to wield such a heavy greatsword so effortlessly.”
“This is just too exaggerated.”
“Is he an enemy?” After their exclamations, the five Solo Players in the team watched Jack warily as he approached.
“Stay alert.”
To their surprise, Kamiyu teased, “Hey, your Attack Power is way too low. You didn’t even finish him off. I’ll have to boost it for you later.”
Jack replied solemnly, “It’s already strong enough.”
“Ahahaha!” Kamiyu covered her mouth as she laughed. For some reason, she found Jack’s serious demeanor when saying such things adorably contradictory.
Hearing their conversation, the others around them let their guard down, their expressions shifting to surprise and envy.
“Big Shot, is this Warrior your friend?” the Axe-Wielding Warrior asked, eyes wide.
“No,” Kamiyu said.
At this, Jack immediately furrowed his brow, and not just him—the other four also looked even more astonished.
“He’s my underling,” Kamiyu added playfully.
“Looking at you like this, you really are easy to fool,” Kamiyu said to Jack with a laugh.
The others joined in with laughter, sensing the good rapport between the two. Moreover, the fact that this over-two-meter-tall Black Armor Warrior didn’t refute the Mage’s words further proved Kamiyu’s prowess.
It confirmed that Kamiyu was the one in charge. They thought to themselves, if she could “control” a Warrior of this caliber, just how powerful must this Big Shot be?
After dealing with Eno, the female Archer continued explaining the location of the Secret Passage to Kamiyu—where it was, how to trigger it, and what to avoid—preparing to share all the information with her.
“Wait a minute, this weapon…” a Warrior exclaimed in surprise, pointing at the Dragon Slayer Blade on Jack’s back.
Kamiyu’s heart skipped a beat, and she frowned, wondering what this person had noticed.
Prompted by the Warrior, everyone else in the team turned to look.
“What about this weapon?” the Archer asked, confused.
“Oh my god, isn’t this the Dragon Slayer Blade belonging to the official Top-Tier Player and regional overlord Bai Zhan? Why is it here?” The Axe-Wielding Warrior, being a Veteran Player, had seen Bai Zhan before.
“Seriously? The Dragon Slayer Blade is an Ancestral Legendary Weapon, isn’t it? Bai Zhan treasured it dearly—how could it end up with him?” another Warrior asked skeptically.
It should be said that before Bai Zhan died, he was notoriously high-profile, stirring up trouble everywhere, bullying Civilian Players, and causing chaos wherever he went.
Therefore, many people recognized Bai Zhan’s weapons. He often flaunted his three Ancestral Legendary Weapons: the Dragon Slayer Blade, the False Death Garment, and the Razor Armor. The Razor Armor had already been destroyed by Kamiyu and Jack working together.
“How could it be fake? I’ve seen the Dragon Slayer Blade. There’s only one like it in all of Crimson Earth. This is Bai Zhan’s Dragon Slayer Blade,” said the Axe-Wielding Warrior.
“What nonsense are you talking? Have you been offline for too long? Bai Zhan is dead now, killed by a new Beta Tester Boss,” said a Warrior player who had been online all along.
“Huh?”
If that was the case, then wasn’t this tall, burly man before them the 13th Beta Tester Boss—”Kamiyu”?
Not knowing whether to be happy or sad, Kamiyu found herself caught in another misunderstanding. These people mistook Jack for her.
She had nothing to say for herself. She had “asked for trouble” by wearing a cloak and a mask all day, acting mysteriously and hiding her face, afraid others would recognize her.
Meanwhile, Jack openly carried the Dragon Slayer Blade she had given him, wandering around everywhere.
The Dragon Slayer Blade was so conspicuous, practically synonymous with the Official Player Bai Zhan. Now that this greatsword was in Jack’s hands, it wasn’t surprising people mistook him for her.
However, this was more beneficial than harmful to her. It meant everyone’s attention would be focused on Jack, not on her, making it much easier for her to carry out her sneaky activities.
Yes, everyone’s gaze was fixed on Jack.
“Look, Boss Kami is decked out head to toe in High Level Armor. You can tell at a glance he’s an impressive and dashing figure,” one Warrior began to flatter Jack.
“Yeah, yeah, and this piece is actually Legendary Armor. You know, even normal Squad Captains and Guild Leaders can only afford Common Armor.”
The more awkwardly they praised Jack, the more embarrassed Kamiyu felt. All the equipment Jack wore had been given to him by her.
“Wait a minute, Boss Kami is called ‘Underling’ by this lady. Could this lady be even more powerful, another Beta Tester?” the Axe-Wielding player suddenly speculated.
“That can’t be right. Doesn’t the Invincible Guild not have any Beta Tester Players?” one Warrior questioned.
“Exactly. If they had a Beta Tester Player, they would have enshrined the Beta Tester Boss long ago, with dozens of attendants coming and going. That would be fitting for a Beta Tester’s status,” another Warrior agreed.
“Hiss—” Kamiyu drew in a sharp breath. He had almost guessed correctly.
Kamiyu quickly stepped in to smooth things over: “Hahaha, I was just joking earlier. He’s the Beta Tester; I’m his younger sister.”
Kamiyu’s offhand joke struck a chord deep within Jack’s heart.
The word “younger sister” exploded in Jack’s mind like a bomb.
Hearing the phrase “I’m his younger sister,” Jack’s hardened heart instantly softened, shattering all his defenses and touching the most vulnerable part of him.
He had sworn to protect his younger sister Winnie, but unfortunately, he had failed “twice.”
The first time was on the battlefield in the Real World; the second time was in the world between the cracks.
Now, he was being given a third chance—here in the world of Crimson Earth. He swore he would protect Kamiyu with his life.
Why? Because Jack believed Kamiyu was the reincarnation of his younger sister, looking almost identical and even sounding remarkably similar.
It was just that her terrible personality was completely opposite to his well-behaved sister.
As for why Jack had been pestering Kamiyu in Dragon Roar City before, both wanting to protect her and wanting to kill her, it was precisely because he had a special plan in mind.
