Chapter 95: The Man Behind

Chapter 95: The Man Behind

When Jack first saw Kamiyu in the Black Sphere Room, he believed she was the reincarnation of his younger sister.

Her eyebrows, eyes, mouth, figure, and even her voice were almost identical. Apart from her hair color, Kamiyu’s appearance closely resembled that of his sister Winnie.

The only difference was Kamiyu’s unpleasant personality. His sister Winnie had never cursed at anyone and had an exceptionally gentle temperament.

Kamiyu, on the other hand, often made sarcastic remarks, left others speechless, and loved to tease him.

Because of their resemblance, Jack felt compelled to protect Kamiyu. In the Black Sphere Room, when he saw someone targeting her, he immediately sprang into action, stopping Mohawk’s advance.

He even sat beside her to intimidate others who harbored malicious intentions.

In truth, Jack had done many things behind the scenes, secretly protecting Kamiyu.

After entering the game, during the subway tunnel battle, after Kamiyu left, Jack appeared to hold off Mohawk until the arrival of the official special troops, ensuring Kamiyu’s safe escape.

As for why he pursued her? Why he flew a helicopter to crash into her? It was because he needed a reason to “cooperate” with Kamiyu.

He needed to deceive Kamiyu. Everything he said and did was aimed at making her believe he was a martial arts fanatic.

Through this method, he gained her trust and assisted her from the sidelines.

Finally, he would duel with her, keeping her in the dark, allowing her to confidently achieve victory while he quietly withdrew.

From his perspective during the 72-hour Black Sphere Game, how could he compete with his sister’s reincarnation for the sole chance to survive?

Back then, his sister Winnie had given him the chance to live, but it ended in tragedy, and he was the one who survived.

Now, he had the choice. He decided to let Kamiyu live.

In truth, Jack’s long-standing goal was to eliminate everyone else before fighting her. As an enemy, he would teach her how to fight. Once his objective was achieved, he would sacrifice himself, allowing Kamiyu to achieve victory while he truly grew stronger.

Jack was the type of person who remained silent, kept secrets, handled everything behind the scenes, and made others immensely happy once everything was resolved.

Just like when Kamiyu recently entered the game, Jack quietly went outside, risking exposure, to purchase daily necessities, all to ensure his “sister” wouldn’t suffer alongside him.

And why, at the city gate, did the usually low-key Jack suddenly erupt, fiercely confronting the official players collecting protection fees, even killing one of them?

It was because the official players’ actions reminded Jack of the past: when he was a refugee, trapped by government troops and unable to leave the city; and in the crevice world, when bandits robbed him and collected tolls.

Both incidents brought back memories of his sister’s tragic death.

These events had crossed Jack’s red line. How could he tolerate it? Jack rose up in resistance, killing them to vent his anger and deter anyone from collecting tolls in the future.

In summary, Jack was the type of silent, self-sacrificing tragic hero who lifted others up, then retreated to the dark corners of the streets to die alone.

After a long internal monologue, we return to the present.

At this moment, in the Valley of the Deathly Echo.

Kamiyu blinked her eyes, rubbing her palms together like a money-grubbing innkeeper, urgently asking the Archer Player about the secret passage.

“Time waits for no one. We must speed-run, only targeting the Dungeon Boss, harvest Magic Crystal Ore, craft Magic Bullets, then run the Keystone Dungeon to obtain the Altar of Lilith and build my own Sanctuary,” Kamiyu repeated the plan in her mind.

The Archer Player nodded. With two Big Shots present, they felt confident approaching the Boss. If it were just them, they would have turned back immediately.

Kamiyu and the Archer Player were whispering to each other.

Kamiyu’s expressions were incredibly animated—one moment her eyes widened, the next her mouth dropped open as she exclaimed, “That works too?”

Since everyone here was on her side, she wasn’t afraid to speak up. She patted her thigh and said, “So, in the first stage, you mustn’t make a sound. Walk to the right side of the mountain, pry open a stone slab, and there’s the tunnel.”

They knew about the secret passage because they had deciphered the code hidden in the Dying Voice Valley Dungeon’s introduction. From the poem in the introduction, they found three stone slabs, revealing three secret passages that allowed them to skip stages and head straight to the Boss level.

“Brilliant, truly brilliant.” For a moment, Kamiyu felt this Crimson Earth was quite interesting. Every piece of information wasn’t just made up—it had meaning behind it. Dungeons were connected to each other, and items were linked to one another.

It felt as complete as the Real World.

That’s right—Crimson Earth was the Real World of another civilization, only it had been corrupted by Aberrant Beast Demons, who slaughtered all living beings in that civilization.

Next, the Hell Tide would surge, surge, and surge again until it broke through the barrier of the Real World where Kamiyu resided, extending the slaughter into the Real World.

By then, building a Sanctuary in Crimson Earth would be meaningless, because the main wave of Monsters would already be in the Real World.

“Big Shot, could you carry us once? Just once,” a Warrior shamelessly pleaded.

The other four also looked at her with hopeful eyes.

Kamiyu couldn’t stand it when people begged her. She wasn’t some dark novel Protagonist who killed at the drop of a hat. She was actually quite “gentle”—just a bit sharp-tongued.

She said, “Fine, just once. And I’m taking all the materials for Recycle.”

“Oh ho!”

“You’re amazing, Big Shot!”

“So cool!”

“We just need a bit of Experience.”

Thus, led by the Archer Player, Kamiyu arrived at the remaining secret passage. After marking it on the Map, she quickly reached the front of the Boss stage.

“The Dying Voice Valley Boss is a level 20 flying-type fire-attribute Monster. Its weakness is low resistance to electricity,” Kamiyu observed, watching a “giant fly” as big as a water buffalo sleeping on a pile of rubble.

“Two Big Shots, can we really defeat it? This is a level 20 Boss.”

“Easy peasy. It seems flying-types aren’t resistant to electricity,” Kamiyu said confidently.

She had Thunderstorm Bullets and could finish it off in seconds, but with so many people watching, she decided to take out her cruel Staff and use Spirit points to whittle down the Boss’s Health.

“Wow, that’s a Legendary Tier Staff, and it has a lightning attribute effect!” a sharp-eyed Warrior noticed.

“As expected of a Big Shot Player, no wonder you wiped out so many skeleton monsters with a single move just now,” another Warrior flattered.

Kamiyu thought to herself, this was still small fry, and it was even her weakest Weapon. She snorted lightly: “Jack, go.”
