Chapter 6: 〈Potion Create〉 is Not a Dud Skill
Original: Chapter 6: 〈Potion Create〉 is Not a Dud Skill
Miss Rilril says that 〈Potion Create〉 is not a Dud Skill.
“Now, let’s talk about the main topic: 〈Potion Create〉.”
“It’s not a Dud Skill?”
Miss Rilril nodded.
“That’s right. If what it created were, for example, Antidotes, or perhaps Recovery Items higher-tier than Potions, it might have been close to a Dud.”
I tilted my head.
“I sort of understand about Antidotes…”
“Antidotes are limited in their usage scenarios, after all. They can’t do anything beyond curing poison.”
“Right. But a Skill that creates Recovery Items better than Potions is also a Dud Skill, right? Why on earth is it a Dud?”
“There are several reasons, but the main ones would be that the Materials required to make them are very difficult to obtain, and raising the Skill Level is challenging.”
“So, you mean Potions are easy to make and their Skill Level is easy to raise?”
“Yes. Also, from our perspective as merchants, Potions—no matter how many we stock—sell out immediately, so—”
Twitch. My body betrayed me with an obvious reaction. It might be a bit unladylike. But I couldn’t help my eyes sparkling.
“So, you mean the more I make, the more I can sell?”
“Yes. That’s exactly it.”
I grinned, my ulterior motives plain as day.
Miss Rilril grinned back. It was the grin of a businessperson with a good money-making opportunity. She looks like a cute, childlike Race, but she’s definitely a proper merchant.
“I see. I’m starting to think 〈Potion Create〉 is a winning Skill.”
Money is important. I’m a high school girl, so I have absolutely no money, and being able to earn some is great motivation. One of the reasons I came to the Dungeon was to earn some pocket money, after all.
“Right? I think it would be good for a while to invest the Experience Points you gain into raising the Skill Level of 〈Potion Create〉. Potions with better performance fetch higher buying prices.”
By the way, I heard Potions are also made in the Dungeonfolk Village. But apparently, the production pace is slow, so they’re very grateful when someone with the Skill makes them.
“And so, we merchants really want to become business partners with Adventurers who possess 〈Potion Create〉. We’ve been searching desperately for an Adventurer with 〈Potion Create〉.”
“I’ll do it. I’ll be that business partner.”
“You’re quick to decide.”
We shook hands firmly. There’s no paperwork, but with this, our business contract is sealed.
“When I make Potions, I’ll prioritize selling them to you, Miss Rilril.”
“I’d appreciate that very much.”
It seems about 30 minutes passed while we were talking.
A Message Window popped up in a spot that didn’t obstruct my vision. It seems the Skill 〈Potion Create〉 has finished making a Potion. And then—
‘Level Up. Status Points have increased, and you have gained a Skill Point.’
“Huh—?”
“Is something wrong?”
“When the Potion finished being created, my Level went up for some reason.”
“Ah, that’s how it is. Skills in the Create category give a lot of Experience Points upon completion. It’s a very welcome Skill for people who aren’t good at defeating Monsters.”
“That sounds like a Skill very suited to me.”
“Yes. If you don’t mind, as I explained earlier, I’d be delighted if you used the Skill Point you gained to raise the Skill Level of 〈Potion Create〉. As the Potion’s performance improves, the demand for Potions from customers will increase.”
Apparently, early Potions have a Recovery Amount that leaves something to be desired. So, once Adventurers reach a slightly higher Level, they want Potions with a higher Recovery Amount.
I immediately used the Skill Point to raise 〈Potion Create〉 to Level 2. Starting from the next Create, the Potion’s Recovery Amount will apparently increase by +10. If the original Recovery Amount was 10, adding +10 makes it 20. That’s quite a significant increase.
“Miss Rilril, I’d like to try selling the Potion I made. Is that okay?”
“Yes. I’d be happy to buy it from you.”
I took out the bottle containing the Potion from my Item Space.
“Then, the purchase price will be 250 Pon.”
“Pon?”
“It’s the common currency within the Dungeon. It’s called Pon. At the current exchange rate, 1 Pon equals 1 yen, so that’s 250 yen in Japanese currency. There’s an Exchange Office at the entrance Plaza of the Dungeon, so please exchange it for yen there.”
“Understood.”
“Then, let’s consider the sale complete.”
Miss Rilril must have something like a Status Screen too. With practiced movements, she operated it, and the Potion inside the bottle I was holding disappeared. Then, it seemed my Potion moved to an Empty Bottle Miss Rilril had. Ah, my Money on Hand became 250 Pon.
My first business transaction ever.
It feels kind of nice. Maybe I’m cut out for business.
“Well then, Miss Sayuki, please look after me again when you have more Potions.”
“Likewise, please look after me. Oh, Miss Rilril, do you have a shop or something? How can I meet you?”
“Please come to the Plaza at the Dungeon entrance. I set up a Street Stall there every day.”
“Got it. Well then, see you tomorrow… No, I’ll come by again later.”
I still have Medicinal Herbs and Mana Gemstones left. So, I’m thinking of making more Potions now.
“I’ll be waiting.”
We waved and parted.
Miss Rilril was a good person. I thought I’d like to become good friends with her.
I think I can manage well in the Dungeon. 〈Potion Create〉 wasn’t a Dud Skill after all. Finding out it was just the right Skill for me made me really happy.
