During the break between classes, I dashed over to the School Store.

Unfortunately, it seemed the bakery section was still being set up. The clerk—a plump woman who looked quite fitting in her bakery apron—was just bringing out trays to start arranging the bread.

“Oh my, hungry again?”

She seemed to remember my face.

“Hello. Well, hungry… I thought I’d get ahead of my stomach growling during class.”

“Hello. Ahahaha, that would be embarrassing, wouldn’t it?”

“Yes… And when my stomach growls, it tends to start a chain reaction with other people’s stomachs too.”

“That takes me back. My classroom was like that when I was young too. Oh, I shouldn’t keep you chatting. Breaks are short, right? I’ll get everything out right away, can you wait just a moment?”

I replied with an “Okay!”

The woman hurriedly started placing bread on the table. I might as well check out what she puts out as she does.

Hmm, this is tough… They all look delicious…

I think I’ll go with the plan of eating one now and saving the rest for Lunch Break.

For the one I eat now, should I go with something sweet like chocolate, or something that seems more filling…?

Lately, I’ve been getting really hungry all the time, it’s a problem. Maybe because I’ve been commuting to the Dungeon so much, my daily calorie needs have increased. I should consider that when deciding which bread to buy.

“So, what’ll it be?”

“Hmm, a Chocolate Cornet, a Shrimp Cutlet Burger, and…”

Come to think of it, I made a decent amount from Miss Marta’s Quest yesterday. So maybe I’ll go for something a bit pricier but looks substantial.

“An Apple Pie, please.”

“You got it~”

I quickly finished paying.

“Taking these to go again today?”

The woman picked up a bag of Rusk for me. I think my eyes lit up.

“Huh, is that okay?”

“Sure, sure. Not always, though. This is from yesterday, so eat it soon.”

“Thank you so much!”

I think I thanked her with an uncharacteristically bright expression, my eyes shining.

I’m genuinely happy. With this, I should be able to get through class energetically today.

After thanking the woman, I headed back to the classroom. I lined up the bread on my desk.

Suddenly, I noticed a boy diagonally to my right front, busily eating his lunch. Was he in the soccer club or the baseball club? Well, whichever. He’s definitely in a sports club.

“Am I going to become like that…?”

Somehow, that’s unpleasant… But I’m so hungry I can’t help it, so I’ll eat one piece of bread while trying to be inconspicuous.

“Hmm, okay, I’ll go with the Chocolate Cornet.”

I think chocolate won’t give off much smell. And volume-wise, it feels just right to put something in my stomach.

I opened the bag and took out the Chocolate Cornet. Then, I took a big bite from the thicker end.

Mmm, the chocolate is good today too. Yum yum.

“Oh, that’s rare. Miss Chiyusaki is having an Early Lunch—”

I was startled. That a girl would talk to me just because I’m having an early lunch…

The girl who popped her head out from diagonally behind me had long black hair and wore glasses. Someone whose character overlaps with mine a bit.

“Miss Tobisaki.”

“Yep. It’s been a day, huh?”

“Y-yeah, it has.”

Since I don’t often get talked to by classmates, I get nervous at times like this.

“Is the School Store bread good?”

Miss Tobisaki stopped by my desk.

“Yeah, really good. The people at the store are kind too, and I’ve become a regular.”

“Wow, maybe I’ll try buying some next time. I’m always a Cafeteria person—”

“How’s the Cafeteria?”

“It’s cheap and tasty. The set meals are recommended—”

She told me about some prices and menus. It was quite reasonable. Going to the Cafeteria might often be cheaper than buying three pieces of bread.

However, I don’t have anyone to go eat with, so the Cafeteria is a high hurdle for me. Eating alone at the Cafeteria… That’s just not very fitting for a Girl in the Bloom of Youth.

“By the way, you went to the Red Zone yesterday, right? How was it? Wasn’t it dangerous?”

“I got slashed all over.”

“Eh…”

She was completely taken aback. Pale as a sheet.

“I got attacked by a big Mantis.”

“What’s the Recommended Conquest Level for that?”

“Seems like 65.”

“Eh…”

She was taken aback again.

“It’s amazing you made it back alive.”

“Humans seem pretty tenacious, I guess.”

Though I think I felt closer to death when I got chased by that swarm of bees later. It was beyond desperate.

“Oh yeah, I heard there was a girl being chased by bee Monsters yesterday.”

I felt a slight jolt. That was exactly what I was just thinking about.

“I hear bees are pretty dangerous when they swarm, and apparently a lot of student Adventurers who caught their eye have become casualties. Hearing that, I got worried about you, Miss Chiyusaki… But you look well. I’m really relieved you’re safe.”

“Y-yeah. Thanks.”

That was me, huh… People are watching quite a bit…

The chime rang. I put the remaining Chocolate Cornet in my mouth. It was delicious.

“Well, I’m heading back.”

Miss Tobisaki gave a small wave. I replied with a “Yeah.”

Phew… I gazed at the clouds flowing outside the window. They were pure white clouds shaped like Chocolate Cornets.

Miss Tobisaki didn’t invite me to go to the Cafeteria together next time… I kind of wished she had.

I want friends. Watching the white clouds, that’s what I wished for.
