“Yes. I want the seeds from this list.”
When I handed the item purchase application to Note, she made an incredibly sour face.
“Where do you plan to grow them?”
“Once they sprout, I was thinking the backyard flower bed…”
Note let out a massive sigh and crossed her arms, still clutching the application.
Ah, she’s switching into lecture mode now.
It was a Hail Mary anyway—if it’s a no, oh well.
“The flower bed isn’t your playground. I’m against planting things just out of curiosity. The church runs on good-faith donations. I won’t tolerate waste. And besides, some of these are varieties that even pros with Green affinity struggle to cultivate.”
“Actually… I was wondering if I could maybe create even more effective recovery potions…”
Not just for fun… my voice grew quieter and quieter toward the end.
“…Some of these are dangerous plants. What exactly do you need them for?”
“The first one on the list is a famous variety of explosion grass, normally used to boost the power of attack magic. But if I could just extract the power-amplifying effect and repurpose it for recovery potions…”
“That’s enough. I get it.”
She cut me off midway through my explanation.
Yeah, figures.
Anyone seeing names like that on the list would peg me as a terrorist.
It’s a flower bed, after all. Guess I’ll just plant some pretty flowers instead.
“Go buy them yourself. I’ll have a dedicated purchase card delivered to you later so you can charge it to the church.”
Eh?
She handed back the application, now signed.
“It’s really okay?”
“If you have a solid purpose in mind, sure.”
Oh!
“For research and development, I’d also like some mixing equipment…”
“…Fine. I’ll have some used gear sent over later. Apply for anything else you still need.”
“Yes!”
Oh wow.
I never dreamed she’d approve the mixing tools too!
I’d planned to sneakily collect them bit by bit, slipping them into other requests once the herbs grew!
“Report your research progress regularly. Oh, and to make room for that sketchy work, we’re moving your quarters to the detached building in the backyard.”
“Yes!!”
That big empty room meant for the gardener—the one with its own kitchen?
And she even greenlit research using explosion grass!
“Yes!!”
I couldn’t help throwing both hands up in glee. Note scolded me with “How unladylike!” and launched into her usual barrage of shopping reminders and lab safety warnings. But I was too thrilled—my grin just wouldn’t quit.
Woo-hoo.
All that reference room stress? Poof—gone.
Time to pack for the move.
