Chapter 54 – House Evas
Chapter 54 – House Evas
“Evas!”
“Yes, Mother.”
“Have you gotten in touch with the Saintess yet?”
“No. Even that is…”
Evas smiled and shrugged his shoulders.
How can he be so carefree! How can you stay this calm!
“Any other information?”
“According to the butler’s report, she’s already left the church. And… the S-rank adventurer said to be her father was just an escort, apparently.”
What in the world!
So the story about her being the daughter of an S-rank adventurer was a ruse! I thought he was too young to be her father!
As expected, Evas’s judgment was spot-on.
When I learned she was a Black Priest isolated in the annex, I flew into a rage and secretly warned her not to get close to my son—without telling Evas.
Oh me, oh my. What a blunder for the ages!
With manners like that and such a wealth of conversation…
She must have been thoroughly concealed in the church, receiving a full Saintess education.
Even going so far as to declare a fake engagement out of wariness toward those around her—that’s proof of a true Saintess, in hindsight.
Why didn’t I realize it?
Ah, enough already! I’m such an idiot!
If only I’d laid the groundwork back then—by now!
Even though I luckily got the information and requested a meeting at the church faster than anyone else, it was too late.
They said requests are pouring in, so even for high nobility, there’s no telling when a reply might come.
Ugh! What a disaster!
“I’m sorry, Evas.”
“Mother, I’ve told you many times—Marie is a precious friend. Please, whatever you do, don’t get any funny ideas.”
“Evas…”
She really was such a wise and wonderful girl.
And that mana capacity of hers… As expected of a Saintess, she’s in a league of her own.
It’s pathetic how I let status and bloodlines cloud my judgment, all for my son’s sake.
As I wallow in regret, Evas tells me over and over: “No matter who she turns out to be, she’s still my friend.”
“Just” a friend—no greed at all…
You’re right. For her sake, I’ll cooperate with anything I can.
Evas isn’t just smart—he grew up so upright. I’m truly grateful for that.
Still, someone—anyone—do something about the me from back then!
Missing a chance like that!
