Chapter 141 – Metal Sheet

Chapter 141 – Metal Sheet

Kangkai failed to block the construct beast’s attack this time. However, by rapidly circulating his Wind-Type Battle Aura, he quickly dispelled the dizziness in his mind. During this period, his body—which had been maintaining high-speed movement—inevitably slowed down significantly. For almost two seconds, he remained in a dazed, static state.

How could the construct beast, which had been taking a beating for so long, let such a golden opportunity slip? Suddenly, a piece of alchemical armor on its back opened, and dozens of golden lights shot toward every vital part of Kangkai’s body in an instant.

These golden lights were actually palm-sized metal shards. Brilliant, multicolored magic patterns covered every inch of their surfaces. Through brief System analysis, Punk identified five or six enchantments stacked indiscriminately on these dozens of metal cards: Sharpness, Acceleration, Penetration, Magic Breaker, Armor Piercing, and Paralysis.

These magical effects granted the unassuming metal shards astonishing lethality. Their trajectories through the air were like lasers, leaving only a fleeting heat before reaching Kangkai.

At this moment, neither Bahanger—who had quickly leaped away—nor the fully alert Punk could rescue Kangkai in mid-air. The metal shards’ assault was too sudden. Who would have thought that the deadliest move of a defensive construct would be such a masterful assassin’s trick? Faced with this even more unexpected attack compared to the “Mind Roar,” Punk could only futilely cast a few Apprentice-Level spells, offering negligible help.

But these Apprentice-Level restraining spells were utterly useless!

Just as the metal shards were about to shred Kangkai into pieces, the dazed ranger finally regained consciousness at the critical moment. Before he could gather his Battle Aura to protect his body, the first sensation that gripped him was one of lethal danger—a call of death.

The agile ranger desperately squeezed every shred of Battle Aura from his muscles, erupting with full force. He decisively dislocated all the joints in his arms and legs, contorting his mid-air body into an unimaginably bizarre shape in less than a second.

Simultaneously, the construct beast’s metal shards arrived.

“Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—”

The sounds of slicing air vanished as abruptly as they came. Thanks to his split-second reflexes, Kangkai avoided most of the metal shards. Those that missed their target left dark, hollow cut marks on the wall behind him.

Having narrowly escaped death, Kangkai quickly activated his Battle Aura to land back on the ground. His condition was now dire. The metal shards had left numerous wounds on his body, with severe injuries such as his arm muscles half-sliced open and a large gash across his abdomen. If not for Kangkai continuously using his Battle Aura to stem the bleeding, he would have already suffered severe blood loss.

“What were those things? How are they so powerful?”

Kangkai felt utterly bewildered. He had been perfectly executing follow-up attacks, so why did the boss suddenly unleash its ultimate move on him?

There wasn’t even time for Kangkai to process the terror of the close call. Just after he chugged a bottle of pale red potion, another swarm of metal shards flew toward him like relentless bees. Injured as he was, Kangkai had no intention of facing them head-on.Wrapped in Wind-Type Battle Aura, Kangkai’s figure flickered like a wisp of breeze as he barely dodged the straightforward assault of the Metal Shards.

“Bahanger, you and my golem hold off that big guy first. I need to help Kangkai deal with these annoying Metal Shards right away.”

Punk immediately decided to eliminate these highly threatening Metal Shards first. Otherwise, with these assault blades cooperating with the rampaging construct beast acting as a tank, the situation would become exceptionally troublesome.

Receiving such a task, Bahanger showed no dissatisfaction whatsoever. On one hand, he didn’t want to deal with the incredibly agile Metal Shards; on the other hand, he was very eager to smash that hulking brute who had withstood thousands of his hammer blows unscathed. So Bahanger loudly responded:

“Leave it to me! Thinking back to the days when I alone held off dozens of trolls without any problem! No need to rush too much – once I break this iron lump into firewood, I’ll come help you!Though he really wanted to complain about how a dwarf could turn iron into firewood, Punk still focused his attention on the metal shards flying everywhere.

These small metal pieces seemed to have locked onto Kangkai, chasing after him in a swarm while completely ignoring Punk nearby. Thus, the unfortunate Kangkai was forced to run all over the cave.

“Why are they only chasing Kangkai?”

Punk didn’t attack immediately. He noticed that these Metal Shards seemed to be autonomously tracking their target. So what did Kangkai have that he and Bahanger didn’t?

The answer soon revealed itself – it was intense energy fluctuations. Just as Bahanger gathered his Battle Aura to clash with the construct beast, nearly half of the Metal Shards suddenly separated from the “main force” and shot toward Bahanger.

Bahanger quickly jumped away from his position to avoid the Metal Shards’ attack, shouting loudly:

“Punk, what’s going on? Didn’t you say you’d handle these Metal Shards?”

At this moment, Punk paid no attention to the brainless dwarf, having already discovered the secret of the Metal Shards.

“So that’s it. They track enemies through intense energy fluctuations, and… after splitting up, the individual strength of the Metal Shards has weakened?Punk keenly detected the change in the Metal Shards’ intensity and quickly reached a conclusion – the Metal Shards would indiscriminately track creatures with intense energy. As for why… because the construct beast’s energy fluctuations weren’t intense though not nonexistent, to avoid friendly fire, their tracking condition was set to “intense fluctuations.”

Moreover, the Metal Shards could only display their maximum power when united – their power would significantly decrease when separated!

Combining the available information, Punk also formed some speculation about the creator of this construct puppet.

“It seems the creator of this construct beast doesn’t have outrageously advanced alchemical technology. Their intelligence core has too many flaws, ultimately only capable of controlling a clumsy construct beast. The reaction speed can’t even keep up with these Metal Shards, so these extremely flexible ‘trump cards’ have to rely on an automatic System?”

Now that he understood the weakness of this rigid contraption, the next steps became simple.

Punk smiled slightly, then used the Swiftness Spell to dodge the construct beast’s charge while simultaneously beginning to construct the framework of an obscure spell. On the other side of the cave, where the Construct Beast was located, some of the Metal Shards had gone off to pursue Punk, allowing Bahanger to seize the opportunity and land a few hammer blows on the Construct Beast. It seemed he had grown tired of being chased around by a swarm of iron fragments, so the furious dwarf was preparing to unleash his ultimate move!

“Good! Watch me, Bahanger, stop this big lump! I’m gonna twist its head off and smash it into pulp! What use is a pile of scrap metal? Even if you turn into a giant dragon, I ain’t afraid!”

Spouting such bold declarations, Bahanger’s body was swiftly enveloped layer by layer in earthen-yellow Battle Aura, as if clad in a thick suit of rock armor.

“Formal-Level Combat Skill—Battle Aura Armor!”

Clad in the Battle Aura Armor, Bahanger looked like a dwarven version of Iron Man. His speed had also increased, and he now bounced around in front of the Construct Beast’s head like a short, stout ball. The Metal Shards, now significantly slower, could no longer strike the dwarf, allowing Bahanger to gleefully resume hammering away at the beast.
